The B-21 Raider first bomber of 21st century and the US Air Force’s next stealth bomber, will be unveiled to the public for the first time in early December, Air Force acquisition chief Andrew Hunter said Tuesday. After 33 years of the huge gap, the world will finally see a new strategic bomber and stealth bomber in the world after B-2. After years of suspense, the U.S. Air Force has finally confirmed that the B-21 Raider stealth bomber will break cover in a ceremony hosted and sponsored by the Northrop Grumman Corporation at its production facilities in Palmdale, California. Andrew Hunter, assistant secretary of the U.S. Air Force revealed at the 2022 aviation, space and network conference that the first B-21 “Raider” program will debut at the end of this year, which is confirmed by the manufacturer Northrop Grumman, which means that this new bomber , since its launch in 2014, is about to usher in the “harvest time”. As the successor to the B-2’s wing-layout stealth strate...

Unknown factors led to the Rockwell B-1B becoming the best supersonic bomber

Image
If we take a look at the various  Military  air arms across the world, one thing is obvious. That is the fact that the strategic bomber is becoming a dying breed. Large, heavy bomber aircraft are few and far between now, with most bombing roles now carried out by multirole ground attack machines, and other such aircraft like the F-35 Lightning or Eurofighter Typhoon. But some air arms still believe there is a need for a big strategic bomber , something that can deliver big payloads to a particular target. Image Russia still has its fleet of Tu-95 Bears, as well as its Tu-22M Backfire and the Tu-160 Blackjack. But America also has a strategic bomber fleet. It has the B-2 Spirit Stealth bomber, the Boeing B-52 Stratofortress, and perhaps the most impressive, the Rockwell B-1B Lancer. Image The B-1B Lancer is one of the very few supersonic strategic bomber s still flying, and still has at least 10 years of service left before it is ultimately replaced by the upcoming ...

The only Soviet bomber that was able to fly to the United States without refueling was this one

Image
The turboprop-powered Tu-95 bomber entered service in 1956 and remains an important part of Russia’s long-range air power. Its Western reporting name is Bear. At the time of its introduction it was the only Soviet bomber , which could reach the United States without in-flight refueling . Image The current carrier version of the bomber /missile is the Tu-95MS (Western designation Bear-H). It entered service in 1984 and was produced until 1992. There are two subvariants, both based on the maritime Tu-142. The Tu-95MS16 (Bear-H16) carries 16 long-range air-launched cruise missiles (6 internally and 10 externally). The Tu-95MS6 (Bear-H6) is the more advanced version, with the provision for the external missile carrier removed in accordance with the SALT/START agreement. Video About 60 Tu-95s of both variants were based on heavy bomber regiments at Engels and Ukrainka. This number includes three aircraft previously detained in Ukraine. The air force also operates 11 prev...

The most powerful bomber in history, the B-17 flying fortress, before it crashed

Image
Second Lieutenant John Bosko was flying his seventh mission on August 24, 1944. He was reasonably seasoned as far as bomber commanders went but was unaware of his target’s macabre reputation. His crew and machine from the 327th Bomb Squadron, 92nd Bomb Group, were en route to the well-defended Merseburg oil refineries in Germany’s heartland from their base in East Anglia. His plane was a veteran of almost 60 missions and had gone through all of them relatively undamaged. Snake Hips and her crew were about to be put to the ultimate test. As the 92nd Bomb Group made its run over the target, the flak bursts began to rattle Snake Hips until a loud explosion shook the aircraft. Smoke filled the cockpit, and fuel sloshed around in the bomb bay. Bosko was shocked to learn from the co-pilot that three bombs had just rolled off the starboard wing. There was a gaping hole in the right side of the fuselage extending from the bomb bay through the radio compartment. Also, a large sec...
