Chelsea blocked Bayern Munich's January approach for Mykhailo Mudryk - report

Image
Chelsea blocked the possibility of struggling winger Mykhailo Mudryk leaving the club during the January transfer window amid interest from Bayern Munich, according to a report . Mudryk only arrived at Stamford Bridge the previous January after a sudden surge in form at Shakhtar Donetsk, impressing for the Ukrainian club in the Champions League in particular – Chelsea stole in ahead of Arsenal to strike a deal worth up to £89m if various add-ons are met. Yet Mudryk failed to score in his first 23 Chelsea appearances. Even now, the 23-year-old has only managed nine total goals and assists in 42 Game s to date, while his sole start two and a half months into 2024 came against second tier Preston North End in the FA Cup. Despite the player occupying a fringe role, Fabrizio Romano has report ed there was no desire from Chelsea to let Mudryk leave the club last month. There was interest from Bayern, who considered him as an option in late January, but this didn't progress to a formal ...

Liverpool vs Chelsea: Complete head-to-head record

Image
North vs south, red vs blue, tradition vs the newly rich; Liverpool's rivalry with Chelsea has long had the makings of a classic, but its significance has only been realised in contemporary times. The duels were rarely notable for much of their respective histories, with the arrivals of two Iberian folk at the start of the 21st century transcending their bouts into a new realm of importance. The pair once frequently met on the grand continental stage and have since made a habit of colliding in domestic cup finals. There's usually plenty at stake when Chelsea and Liverpool lock horns, and here's a complete overview of their rivalry. Marouane Fellaini retires from professional football

Image
Former Manchester United and Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini has confirmed his retirement from professional football. Fellaini has decided to hang up his boots at the age of 36 following a four-year spell in the Chinese Super League with Shandong Taishan. In a post on Instagram , Fellaini said: "I am writing this post to announce that after a career of 18 years, I am retiring from professional Football . "But it all started long before these 18 years. I remember, like the day of yesterday, my first game as a child, the endless training sessions with my dad, my first selection for Standard de Liege, and my first selection for the Belgian national team. Time flies! "What an incredible journey it has been! I am so grateful to have played the sport I love at the highest level. I am proud to have represented Standard in Belgium, Everton and Manchester United in the UK, and Shandong Taishan in China. It was an honour to have played for the Belgian national team at the Ol...

Erik ten Hag confirms Man Utd's striker plans amid FFP concerns

Image
Erik ten Hag admits Manchester United are not expecting to be able to sign a striker before the January transfer window closes. The Red Devils are looking for an experienced striker to help ease the burden on £72m signing Rasmus Hojlund, who has just two Premier League goals to his name this season, but have had to focus on outgoings this month to try and raise money. As 90min revealed earlier this month, a move for a veteran striker like Bayern Munich's Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting would only be considered if United could free up enough money by the end of the month. Ten Hag has now confirmed a move for a new striker is not financially viable, telling Friday's press conference: "I looked [at signing a striker], but there is no space on FFP to do something about this lack of quantity in the striker position." United's conundrum was worsened by the revelation that Anthony Martial, the only other natural striker on the books at Old Trafford, was set to miss another ...

Erik ten Hag details 'very positive' first meeting with Sir Jim Ratcliffe

Image
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has described an early meeting with Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s new contingent as "very positive " and "constructive" following the billionaire's 25% buy-in. Through his INEOS firm, Ratcliffe has become a minority investor at Old Trafford but will also take over sporting operations as part of his deal with the Glazer family, who remain majority owners. Sir Dave Brailsford, director of sport for INEOS and the man who masterminded the success of British Cycling and later Team Sky (now the INEOS Grenadiers), is set to play an active role. The deal, although in the pipeline for several months, was only announced on Christmas Eve. But, already, work is getting started as introductions are made. "Very positive , I have to say," Ten Hag said on Thursday of his first meeting . Why Rasmus Hojlund has been left out of Man Utd squad to face Nottingham Forest

Image
Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund will miss Saturday evening's trip to Nottingham Forest due to a bout of illness. Hojlund scored his first Premier League goal in the Red Devils' dramatic 3-2 comeback win at home to Aston Villa on Boxing Day, ending his 14- Game drought in domestic action. But the Denmark international will not have another chance to score again in 2023 after being ruled out of United's clash with Forest. United have confirmed that Hojlund is suffering from an illness and has remained at home. A club statement read: "Rasmus Hojlund, who scored his first Premier League goal against Aston Villa on Boxing Day, is unfortunately unavailable for this evening’s Game at Nottingham Forest due to illness." West Ham United welcome Manchester United to the London Stadium this Saturday in the Premier League. The Hammers have endured mixed fortunes in recent weeks, conceding five goals to both Fulham and Liverpool but also managing victories against Freiburg and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Why Antony missed Man Utd's win at Everton

Image
Manchester United winger Antony missed the club's 3-0 Premier League win over Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday because of an injury. Antony joined United's injury ranks ahead of the trip to Merseyside with what the Manchester Evening News summarised as a "knock". The Brazilian wasn't considered fit enough to play and therefore didn't even take up a place on the bench. He joins Casemiro, Rasmus Hojlund, Christian Eriksen, Lisandro Martinez and others out of action, although the assessment doesn't appear to be a serious one. Having started United's first four Premier League Game s of the season, albeit without a goal or assist to his name, and a near automatic starter when fit during his debut campaign, Antony has struggled to reclaim a regular place since being reintegrated into the squad following a period of leave. The former Ajax star was given permission to spend several weeks back home in Brazil during and after the September international br...
