Russian Strategic Air Command’s Il-80 Maxdome: Doomsday Jet

Image
In the context of the Russian-Ukrainian war with new developments, Russia has conducted a functional test of the Il-80 aircraft. The airborne command and control aircraft or “Maxdome” Ilyushin Il-80 tested a communication system with nuclear submarines amid a missile attack on Ukraine, according to the RIA Novosti news agency. Accordingly, during the test, the Il80 maintained a stable connection with a strategic nuclear missile submarine in complex conditions. This shows the high readiness of Russia’s strategic nuclear forces to deal with any situation. This is also considered the closest exercise to real conditions that Russia can conduct. This move certainly makes the NATO Military alliance pay special attention. The Ilyushin Il-80, also known as the “Maxdome”, was created during the Soviet era to evacuate the country’s top leaders, command and control in the event of a nuclear war comprehensive multiplication. The Maxdome made its first flight in 1985 and was put in...

The 50-year-old aircraft that just won’t die is the A-10 Warthog

Image
Despite being nearly fifty years old, how does the U.S. A-10 Warthog continue to survive various efforts to cancel it each time it’s in budget-cut danger? An airplane that is as ugly as its name, the A-10 can bring the heat to the air-to-ground battle. Its many critics have to admit that this thing is just awesome at close-air-support. Designed as a “tank plinker” during the Cold War, the Warthog showed extreme prowess during Operation Desert Storm while destroying all kinds of Iraqi weapons systems. How Many Lives Does the Warthog Have? But the Air Force has wanted to eliminate the A-10 for more than 20 years. It is considered too slow and ponderous after decades in service. And despite its achievements in the air-to-ground fight, opponents believed the money used on upkeep and maintenance could be better spent on more modern aircraft . Enter the Biden Administration and the U.S. Senate Then Politics entered the picture. First, the Biden Administration said no mo...

Lockheed Martin completes the updated F-16 fighter after four years.

Image
First F-16 Block 70/72 was produced in Greenville and will be delivered to the Bahrain Air Force After a hiatus of about four years, Lockheed Martin has completed assembly of a new F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter. The Block 70/72 aircraft belongs to the Bahrain Air Force and was produced at the company’s new factory in Greenville, in South Carolina. The first flight of the fighter is scheduled for early 2023. In the meantime, the US company has set up an additional plant in Greenville to continue production of the F-16. The unit opened in 2021. According to Lockheed, the new production line in South Carolina is set to build at least another 128 Block 70/72 F-16s by the end of this decade for five customers. In addition to Bahrain, the new F-16s will be assembled for Slovakia, Bulgaria, Taiwan and an as-yet-unidentified customer. Another country negotiating the acquisition of the fighter is Jordan, which plans to purchase eight aircraft. Last variant of the F-16 The...

Following the program: The A-10 Warthog’s gun can fire 3,900 rounds per minute.

The venerable A-10 Thunderbolt has been a mainstay of the Air Force’s fleet for decades, forming the backbone of the Air Force’s close air support capability. Despite its age, the A-10 Warthog – as it is affectionally known by Military personnel – is unlikely to leave service anytime soon. Indeed, when talking about the future of the Air Force’s fighter fleet, Gen. Charles “CQ” Brown described a desire for the Air Force to shift to what has been described as a “four plus one” system that would see the Air Force continue to operate a mix of the F-35, F-16, and F-15EX, and the aircraft that will result from the Air Force’s Next Generation Air Dominance Program (NGAD), while the A-10 would operate as the “plus one” aircraft. The A-10 has proven itself to be very capable in a ground support role since its introduction in the 1970s, and has seen combat action in the Gulf War and Operation Allied Force in Kosovo, as well as in both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Endur...

Type 26 British Frigate | Future Naval Fleet Protection

Image
The Type 26 frigate or City-class frigate is a class of frigate being built for the United Kingdom’s Royal Navy. The ship design and manufacture programme, known as the Global Combat Ship, was created by the UK Ministry of Defence to partially replace the navy’s thirteen Type 23 frigates, and for export. Its primary role is to conduct advanced anti-submarine warfare missions while supporting air defence and general purpose operations. The programme began in 1998, under what was then known as the Future Surface Combatant (FSC). However, by March 2010, this procurement programme had evolved to become the Global Combat Ship, following the announcement of a four-year, £127 million design contract being awarded to BAE Systems Maritime – Naval Ships. The design passed Main Gate 1 in early 2015, with the Demonstration Phase starting 1 April 2015. In August 2015 the first long lead items for Type 26 were ordered, with manufacturing then expected to begin in 2016 and the first ...
